Dinner Party

Hi guys! Sorry I've been incognito for the past few days. But getting scarily close to the end of summer, I decided to throw a dinner party for me and my friends before the dreaded first day of classes. I decided to make a little montauge of videos and pictures documenting the fun night. Enjoy! xx

Galleries and Eating

Spending another day in Connecticut, we thought we would drive over to another little town and check out an art gallery my aunt and uncle had been raving about ever since they first went. I've never been that much of an art person, but before I even walked in I was amused by the funniest sculpture outside the building!

Usually I'm creeped out by human-like animals, but it was so hilarious!

But it wasn't until I actually walked in that I was actually amazed. At first I was just slightly impressed, thinking everything was easily sculpted with wood. Then after walking closer and closer to the sculptures, I noticed that the artist had geniusly manipulated cardboard to make these wood-like pieces  of art. I reluctantly took some pictures, scared that I wouldn't be allowed, until the gallery owner told me it was okay.
Can you believe this is made out of cardboard?!

After walking around the gallery in awe for at least forty minutes, we were fortunate enough to be there when the artist strolled in to look at his work. We couldn't help ourselves from walking over and articulating our amazement. After finally telling ourselves that we had re-seen all of the sculptures enough times, we headed out to get something to eat. But the art followed us! Right in the parking lot were magnificent, but never failing to be funny, sculptures!

Ugh paparazzi are so annoying..

Then finally walking back to our car, we passed one more piece of art!

After walking around, I was so happy to be sitting in a nice restaurant, waiting for my food.

Mozzarella, tomato, and pesto caprese (yum!)

Penne al Vodka

Then to end the evening, we hopped over to a tiny book shop and I picked out a book since I just finished Paper Towns by John Green. I picked a memoir about a woman working for The New Yorker  in 1957. I'm picky about my books, so I'm hoping it'll keep me interested.

The Receptionist by Janet Groth
Had a great day, but now I'm deadly tired. Goodnight and sweet dreams lovelies! xx

A Little Trip to Connecticut

Hey guys! So while visiting my extended family in New York (which I'll blog about when I get home), we decided to venture out into Sherman, Connecticut, where my Aunt owns a beautiful cottage. Although I love the bustle and liveliness of the city, escaping into the quiet and the peace of the country was an undeniable alleviation. The internet is crazy slow and there's barely any cell service (what a pain!) but it's given me a lot more time to read and relax.

After having a feast at Sarabeth's in the city, using a gift certificate my friend had given me for my birthday, I was too stuffed to have a huge meal for dinner. We ended up going to a quaint restaurant in Connecticut and I had a small salad. I thought I was being healthy, but I made up for it by treating myself to some good ol' ice cream afterwards! (I didn't get a cone though...). We went to a the cutest little ice cream parlor near my aunt's house, and I couldn't help myself from taking a few snaps!

Some Cake Batter ice cream cus' I'm still a little kid.
Look how cute the curtains and chairs are!

Well that was my day! It's always fun visiting one-of-a-kind places like these. Hope you lovelies are having a great finale of summer as well. xx

Be Yourself!

The first few months of 2013 were a whirlwind of stressing out about school, making new friends, traveling to new places, and finally learning to be myself! There are so many different aspects of being who you are. Style, personality, opinions, humor. Whatever it be, letting your individuality jump out is an essential part of growing up and creating an identity. As a fifteen year old teenager influenced so much by New York socialites or even anonymous beauties I walk by on the street, being "myself" is a struggle. I find that I act differently around certain crowds, and try my hardest to impress others. Now impressing people that you may find important or "better" is a natural instinct, but going so far as to changing your personal opinions or thoughts is NOT going to make someone like you better. Nobody enjoys a one-sided conversation that includes you agreeing with everything the other person says. As long as you don't put down the other person's opinions, people love to meet people with different perspectives on things. Not only does it let you be yourself, but it opens up conversation. If you really want someone to like you and become friends with you, you need to be comfortable around them because if the friendship blooms, it shouldn't be based on false similarities or opinions. If someone dismisses you as a possible friend because you happen to not like the color yellow or you enjoy to wear flats more than heels, that person should not be in your life anyway! I know it may seem petty, but I know that when put in an intimidating situation, I "lie" about little things just to impress the other person.

I'm a huge believer in that your personal style shows a lot about who you are. I know that everybody (yes, even celebrities!) draw inspiration from other people. You know that pang of jealousy you feel when you see a picture of Olivia Palermo or any other fashion crazy celebrity in the PERFECT outfit? I instantly online shop and try to find something similar to what they're wearing. As humans we always want what we don't have, and seeing someone in an outfit we love drives us to want it! Taking inspiration from style icons is a great idea to spruce up your fashion choices, but if you find yourself buying exact replicas of designer bags or shoes worn by someone else, think of buying some original things! I know it feels so good to finally have something you've been eyeing with an envious eyes in the magazines, but you'd be surprised to find the satisfaction in buying a new outfit that you nor nearly anyone else has seen! It's another way to show individuality, while also getting a great original outfit!

I'm ready for the last few months of the year, and I'm hoping to go far with my new perspective on things. You don't see any truly successful people copying anyone or pretending to be something they're not. They all learned to do something that may seem so little and so easy, but in all honesty might be the hardest thing to do : Be themselves!

If you found this helpful or know anyone that might need to read something like this to perk them up, feel free to share this on Google + or other social media sites! Leave a comment below if you enjoyed this post, and remember that you are all truly amazing and have the right to opinions just as much as that one really "cool" person you know does! xx

Calistoga Relaxation

I'm back! From driving a couple of hours to the wine country, eating at excellent restaurants, and going on much needed (probably not) shopping sprees, I had an excellent start to summer.

The first trip I took at the beginning of August was a small road trip to Calistoga with my parents and brother. Known for their high end hotels and spas I was looking forward to a nice relaxing vacation by the pool in the sun. And that's exactly what I got!

Bathing Suit top and bottom : TARGET!

Other than lounging by the water, we also dined and ate (maybe a little too much!) at Calistoga's many acclaimed restaurants. Being dressed to par was a must at these high end eateries, so my newly bought dresses were put to use.
